Lachesis Mutus 30, 200, 1M – Uses, Benefits & Side Effects

Lachesis mutus is one of the most valuable remedies of the homeopathic Materia medica. It is a constitutional, deep, and long-acting polychrest remedy.

This medicine is an animal kingdom remedy a snake poison remedy and is commonly known as Surukuku or Bushmaster. It belongs to the family Crotalidae.

The proving of this remedy was done by Dr. Hering in 1828 from the virus of Surukuku. He handled the deadly snake himself and gave out the symptoms after coming to consciousness. This medicine Lachesis was proved at great risk to life.

The Surukuku snake or Bushmaster is found in the hot countries of South America. It is seven feet long snake and its poisonous fangs are nearly one inch long. The skin of this snake is reddish-brown while the back has large spots. The poison is odorless, tasteless, and somewhat greenish-white.

Lachesis Constitution/Personality 

Lachesis is particularly suited to emaciate and thin persons than to fleshy persons. Persons of less melancholy, dark eyes, and a disposition to low spirits and indolence. They have broken down the constitution. It is suited to those who have been changed both mentally and physically by their illness.

It is highly suitable medicine for women of choleric temperament which mean those who are extroverted, ambitious, and goal-oriented. Women who have not recovered from the change of life “have never well since that time”.

Guiding symptoms of Lachesis

Lachesis is a polychrest remedy and it has great actions on almost every part of the body. The seat of action of Lachesis is on the mind, nerve, circulation, heart, female genitals, and mucus membrane.

Lachesis patients have frantic loquacity. They talk all the time without any relevance or consistency.

The loquacity of Lachesis is so rapid that if anyone in the room commences to tell something, the patient will take it up and finish the story, although he has never heard anything about it. Loquacity is one of the main guiding and characteristic symptoms of this remedy.

Another Characteristic feature is climacteric ailments. This remedy is especially useful in menopause or menopausal syndrome. Lachesis patients say “have never well since that time” referring to the menopausal period.

There is great sensitivity to touch all over the body, especially in the throat and loin region. They can’t bear any kind of tight clothing or jewelry around their neck and abdomen.

Lachesis is a left-sided remedy that means the left side of the patient is principally affected. Complains always begin from the left and extend to the right side.

Being a snake remedy there can be seen many similarities in the patient’s constitution same as to the snake. It is said that the snake is revengeful so the patient is also very suspicious and revengeful.

The snake tongue is not steady when protruded, similarly, there is trembling of the tongue when protruded and loquacity are observed in the patient.

The stool of the snake is black and offensive. Similarly, almost all the discharges of the Lachesis are dark and offensive.

Mind symptoms 

Lachesis medicine has marked action on the mental sphere of the patient. There is great anguish, unsupportable anxiety, and uneasiness seen in the patients of Lachesis.

There is great fear or dread of death. The patient feels as if he is someone else and is in the hands of some stronger power. The patient also feels or imagines that he is dead and people are preparing for his funeral.

These patients suspect everyone around them. He will not take medicine from anybody because they think the others would poison him.

He is afraid to taste even his food because he believes that it could be merely a bet for his destruction. At times this suspicion takes the form of fear and he imagines himself being followed by enemies.

Lachesis is clinically indicated in the cases of dementia with great loquacity delirium tremens and muttering delirium. When a patient is incapable of performing any work in an orderly manner and becomes indolent, indifferent, and forgetful.

Head symptoms 

Lachesis is an indicated medicine for congestive headache that gets aggravated in the morning after rising. It is also effective in neuralgic headaches which concentrate at the roots of the nose, extend into the face and eye, or even to the shoulders.

There is a terrible neuralgic headache due to exposure to cold and gets better by warm application. Also, there is heaviness in the head and the patient can’t open his eyes because of this.

Eyes symptoms

Lachesis is indicated to treat many eyes related pathologies mainly the neuralgia of eye orbit in which the eyes feel as if they are squeezed. It is useful for the affection of the optic nerve and retina.

Particularly it is a valuable remedy for hemorrhages of the optic nerve and retina, with consequent dimness of the vision. There is great sensitivity to light. There is flickering before the eyes, especially when reading with the weariness of the eyes.

Ears symptoms

Lachesis is indicated to treat ear-related disorders like ear pain, tinnitus, and partial hearing loss. There is great pain in the ears, generally extending from the throat and zygoma into the ear.

It has been usually found useful when the ear wax becomes thick and causes irritation in the ear. It is indicated in deafness with great sensitiveness to noises there is numbness of concha, and on pressure, it is also felt in inner parts, then generally painful on pressure and heat.

Nose symptoms 

The remedy Lachesis is indicated when the margins of the nose become red, sore, and erysipelatous with catarrh, and after catarrh, the nose remains red and sore in the angles at the tip for a long time. There is sneezing and very violent catarrh with cough and head troubles.

It is also indicated in the bleeding of the nose when the blood is dark in color and thick in appearance. With the sore throat there may be obstruction of the posterior nares and discharge of bloody matters from the nostril, and often soreness of the nostrils and lips.

Mouth symptoms 

Lachesis is a very good remedy for treating toothache that is extending through the jaws of the ear and swelling cheeks. The teeth feel too long when biting them together. Also, there is remarkable brittleness of the carious tooth, and the large piece gets broken off while eating.

It is also indicated in painful and swollen gums. The gums are swollen about the hollow tooth followed by discharge of pus. It is also indicated in bleeding gums.

There is feeling transient prickling feeling and burning on the tongue with an accumulation of saliva in the mouth. Generally indicated in oral ulcers is when the mouth is covered with blisters on each side.

Face symptoms

The face becomes swollen, generally puffy with burning and drawing pain in the bones of the face. There is a pain in the face tearing above the orbits with vomiting of food.

Lachesis is clinically indicated in facial erysipelas, with great swelling and a purplish appearance. It is also indicated to treat facial neuralgia, and flushes of heat at the climacteric.

Throat symptoms

Lachesis is indicated in dryness and rawness of the throat without thirst. There is a sticking sensation as if a thousand needles are threatening to suffocate the patient.

There is tenacious mucus in the back part of the throat and the hawking of the mucus is so much that it seems as though an abscess had broken.

The throat feels swollen on swallowing and there is also burning in it. The throat and the larynx are painful even on bending the head backward.

There is a feeling as if tendons were drawing the throat up to the palate, with pressure as after swallowing astringent pears.

Patients complain that liquid causes more difficulty in swallowing than a portion of solid food. It seems as though something was in the throat that obliged swallowing.

Chest symptom

Lachesis is a wonderful and highly effective remedy for treating violent dry cough that becomes worse after sleep and seems to be excited by increased secretion of fluid in the larynx.

Every contact with an open-air cause a violent tickling cough accompanied by expectoration of mucus. The expectoration is scanty and sometimes difficult to raise.

It is indicated to the patient has loud rattling respiration by single paroxysm, at night sleep. They are constantly obliged to take deep breaths from time to time especially when sitting.

There is great commotion and anxiety in the chest with constant efforts to vomit. Patients feel suffocated during sleep due to oppression in the chest.

Heart symptoms

Lachesis is indicated when there is a feeling of constriction in the heart. There is cramp-like pain in the precordial region that causes palpitation with anxiety.

It is frequently indicated medicine in hypertrophy of the heart and angina pectoris. Clinically it is indicated in inflammatory disease of the heart with the symptoms of palpitation, suffocation, and intolerance of pressure about the heart, with pain and numbness in the left arm, and a feeling as if the heart is growing up and suffocating him.

Stomach symptoms

Lachesis is a wonderful remedy for cardialgia or heartburn and indigestion. There is eructation of food after eating and heartburn after smoking. There is great soreness in the pit of the stomach to touch, and intolerance of clothes around it.

There is sensitiveness at the pit of the stomach with pain and feeling as if something were turning about in it, with heart troubles.

This remedy is useful during the period of black vomit in yellow fever, and sometimes in the vomiting during pregnancy. It is a valuable remedy for gastritis in drunkards.

Abdomen and Rectum symptoms

It is indicated in the conditions when there is violent pain in the region of the spleen while riding and also in the hepatic region obliging the patient to stretch out straight which afforded a little relief. The clothes around the hypochondria are very annoying.

There is an agonizing cutting pain in the right side of the abdomen, throwing the patient into fainting attacks. There is painful distension of the abdomen as if the internal parts were greatly dilated.

It is indicated when there is much rumbling in the abdomen, colic, and emission of flatus after eating.

Lachesis is also indicated to treat the protrusion of the rectum after stool, which is thick and proportionately swollen. The patient constantly feels the flatus at the anus, though he presses out only small short emissions from time to time.

This remedy is useful in diarrhea, with violent spasmodic cramps like colic so that the patient cannot straighten himself. Diarrheal-like stools with haemorrhoidal trouble.

It is also indicated in constipation when the stool constantly lies close to the anus, but only the flatus passes. There is no stool for several days even with a good appetite, on account of which the abdomen became hard and distended.

Urinary symptoms

There is a peculiar not very painful but very unpleasant sensation in the bladder, associated with a real desire to urinate, with slimy sediment to the urine. There is pressure upon the bladder with burning and cutting pain in the abdomen.

There is a frequent desire to urinate without much discharge and also there is frequent micturition of dark frothy urine. Urine is of strong odor, staining the lines yellow and depositing cloudy sediment.

This medicine can be given in the condition when patients have a sensation of a ball rolling in the bladder and cause irritability during sleep at night.

Male symptoms

Lachesis has a very good action on the sexual organ of both males and females. It is a highly effective medicine for treating male sexual-related disorders especially when there is a strong and unusual erection in the morning or during the day without amorousness.

Lachesis is indicated when there is a red pimple or spot beneath the margin of the glans penis that causes difficulty in coition.

Along with an unusual erection, there is also the pain in the right side of the scrotum, the testicles become hard and the scrotum gets relaxed.

Lachesis is also indicated in the cases when a patient has a desire for coition but the erection is feeble and there is late emission. There is a great desire for coition but when controlled it caused great inclination to mental labor.

Female symptoms 

Lachesis is a valuable and a great remedy for treating the troubles at climacteric, especially for metrorrhagia or irregular uterine bleeding except for the menstrual periods, hot flushes, fainting turns, flatulent distension, pain in ovaries and exhaustion from sleep, etc.

It is a valuable remedy for inflammation of the ovaries, with violent pain and sensitiveness to the weight of clothes, especially indicated if the menstrual flow is offensive and sometimes there is general relief on the free appearance of menses.

The most frequent indication of Lachesis in all diseases of the uterus and ovaries is the intolerance of the weight of the clothing and the tendency of the disease to extend from left to right.

This condition has cured almost every pathological condition of female organs, tumors, displacement, and induration.

Hand and Leg symptoms

Lachesis is an effective medicine in treating rheumatic pain in the extremities, paralyzed lameness in almost all the bones, heaviness of the limbs, and jerking in the hand and lower extremities.

There is the weakness of the arms in fever. They become so weak that she is unable to raise them and they fall again. There is tension throughout the whole arm extending through the middle finger as if the tendons were too short.

There is sudden jerking together of the whole body, starting from below while sitting. After sleep, the body becomes so weak that the patient could scarcely stir or move.

Back symptoms

Lachesis is given in the condition when the nape of the neck is sensitive to external pressure. The patient can’t tolerate tight clothing like a necktie or any necklace around his neck. This is one of the most characteristic symptoms of Lachesis. There are tears in the cervical vertebrate.

There is also a constant pressure pain between the scapulae and on the chest. Patients complain about very distressing, persistent, pressive, sticking pain near the point of the right scapulae, towards the spine, deep in the back, as if something were sticking in it and obliging the patient to bend backward.

Skin symptoms

Lachesis is a very effective remedy for treating many skins related issues like carbuncles, boils, and ulcers with intense pain.

There are red pimples here and there on the body, with at times tickling in them, scratching causes pain. The patient is unable to sleep at night on account of the biting itching.

It is indicated to treat the ulceration of the nails after a bruise. There is burning in ulcers at night so the patient is obliged to rinse and wash them with cold water.

There is a bluish blackish spot on the skin of the Lachesis patient which is also one of the most important characteristic features of this remedy.

Fever symptom

During the chill stage of the fever patient becomes indolent and prostrated, he is obliged to lie down flat on the ground near the fireplace which makes the patient feel better.

The patient is obliged to lie down the whole day on account of fever. There is chilliness in the back and a single paroxysm of shivering.

There is febrile heat with the fullness of the head drawing in some teeth and the bones of the face. During fever, the patient desires to be covered.

The palms of the hands, soles of the feet, and abdomen become very hot, and with sleepiness without being able to sleep.

Aggravating factors make the condition of the illness worst, while the amelioration factor makes the condition of the disease better.

The complaints of Lachesis become worse after sleep, on empty swallowing of liquids, retarded discharges or suppression of discharges, by slight touch or pressure of clothes and at climacteric period.

Lower potency is given when very few symptoms of the patient match with Lachesis and help the doctor only to diagnose the disease condition. 

This potency requires frequent repetition, 3-4 times a day, till the expected result is seen. 

Lachesis 200 Uses

This is considered as higher potency; they are given when the majority of mental symptoms and physical symptoms of Lachesis are matched with the disease individuals.

Higher potencies are advisable to be not repeated very often; they act for a long duration of days, so the second dose is repeated every 7-days or every 15-days once.

Lachesis 1M Uses

This is a very high potency of Lcaheis. One should give it only after careful case analysis, where all medicinal symptoms of Lachesis and that given by the patient match perfectly. 

One should not repeat 1 M potency. It is given 30 days once and waiting for symptoms to disappear or until any new symptoms appear.

Lachesis Q (Mother Tincture) Uses
