Arsenic Album is one of the important deep-acting remedies, useful in progressive chronic diseases.

It is commonly known as White oxide of Arsenic (AS2O3) and is proved by Dr.Hahnemann.

It acts upon the vegetative system, especially on the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract, digestive system.

Arsenic Album Personality/Constitution

The patient is lean, thin, debilitated having a Hippocratic face, a dirty, waxy look of face. Patient is very fastidious, wants everything in a neat and clean place in order.

Thermally chilly patient, there is internal chilliness, he craves heat, except the outer head.

Arsenic Album Uses

The arsenic patient has great anguish, anxiety, restlessness, and fear of death, thinks that he is suffering from an incurable disease, and it is useless to take medicines, thinks is surely going to die; dread of death, when alone, or, going to bed.

The patient is mentally restless but physically too weak to move still cannot rest in any place, changing places continually; wants to be moved from one bed to another, and lies now here now there.

Burning pains; the affected parts burn like fire as if hot coals were applied to parts better by heat, hot drinks, hot applications except for the head.

There is burning thirst without special desire to drink; the stomach does not seem to tolerate, because it cannot assimilate cold water it lies like a stone in the stomach, cold water is wanted, but he cannot dare to drink it.

Used to treat gastric derangements after eating cold fruits; ice cream; ice water; sour beer; bad sausage; alcoholic drinks; strong cheese patient cannot bear the smell or sight of food, with a great thirst for cold water; drinks often, but little at a time; seldom eats food.

It is indicated in breathing troubles like asthmatic conditions; one must sit or bend forward; springs out of bed at night, especially after midnight then unable to lie down for fear of suffocation; exhaustion and great weakness, all symptoms generally worse 1-2 p. m., 12-2 a. m.

Skin is dry and scaly, cold, blue and wrinkled; with cold, clammy perspiration; like parchment; white and pasty; black vesicles and burning pain.

Mind Symptoms

The patient is miserly, malicious, selfish, lacks courage, is sad, depressed, with sensibility increased in general.

Confusion of head due to weak memory, he is extremely fastidious wants everything neat, in order and clean, even a picture hanging on the wall slightly tilted must be adjusted properly.

Head Symptoms

The Head is in constant motion with headaches, throbbing, and burning relieved by cold, other symptoms worse by cold are peculiar of Arsenicum.

Periodical headaches with burning pains, restlessness, and cold skin.

In Hemicrania-the headache is so severe it makes the patient dazed, feels as if the skull would burst, with the icy feeling of the scalp and great weakness.

It is useful in treating dandruff-the scalp is very sensitive; cannot brush hair, itches intolerably; circular patches of bare spots; rough, dirty, and covered with dry scales there is nightly burning and itching in head.

Eyes Symptoms

It is used to treat corneal ulceration in which there is external inflammation, with extreme painfulness; burning, hot, and excoriating lachrymation the lids become red, ulcerated, scabby, scaly, granulated leading to intense photophobia; there is edema around eyes, better by external warmth.

Face Symptoms

Throat Symptoms

Chest Symptoms

Important remedy in treating Asthma that is worse at midnight, the patient is unable to lie down on bed due to fears of suffocation at night as the air passages are constricted.

There is burning in the chest with suffocative catarrhal coughing; the cough is dry, as, from Sulphur fumes, cough is worse after drinking, after midnight, and lying on the back.

Stomach Symptoms

It is used to treat stomach complaints that come after taking ice-cream, cold fruits, decayed food or meat, sour beer, bad sausages, strong cheese, ill effects of vegetable diet, melons, and watery fruits generally; food has no taste, cannot bear the sight or smell of food.

There is burning pain with intense heat in the pit of the stomach, and pressure in the stomach, especially after eating, patient feels great anxiety about the stomach, becomes restless and rolls about, has great thirst; drinks much, but little at a time.

There are cutting pains in bowels with tenesmus corrosive stools leading to burning in the anus and rectum during and after stools.

It is used to treat diarrhea-after eating and drinking, the stools are yellowish, black, offensive watery and bloody painful, spasmodic protrusion of rectum with tenesmus accompanied by burning pain and pressure in rectum and anus with much prostration. Diarrhea is worse at night(12-2 am), and after eating and drinking; from chilling stomach, alcoholic abuse, spoiled meat.

It is used to treat Dysentery dark, bloody, very offensive, with much prostration. It is used to treat hemorrhoids burn like fire; relieved by heat, with stitching pain, when walking or sitting, but not at stool, preventing sitting or sleeping, skin about anus is excoriated.

Urinary Symptoms

It is used in paralysis of the Bladder muscles are weak, urine passes in large quantities without sensation, after urinating, there is the feeling of weakness in the abdomen.

It is used to treat Bright’s disease, Diabetes in which the patient is anxious, fearful, restless, and full of anguish, urine is scanty, burning, and involuntary, urine is albuminous, urine contains epithelial cells; cylindrical clots of fibrin and globules of pus and blood in it as seen in various cases of diabetes.

Diabetes leading to gangrene and ulcers are also treated by this remedy.

Male Symptom

It is used to treat gonorrhea in which there is, itching, shooting, and burning in the glans, and in the prepuce, there is inflammation, painful and gangrenous swelling of the genital parts.

The Glans and testes are swollen, glans are cracked, and bluish with erysipelatous inflammation of the scrotum, there is flowing of the prostatic fluid during loose stools.

Female Symptoms

Arsenicum album is used to treat cervical spondylosis in which there is violent and burning pain in the back, powerfully aggravated by the touch, there are acute drawing pains in the back and between the shoulder-blades, which makes it inevitable to lie down.

There are painless swellings of the neck and the lower jaw causing pressure on neck bones.

Skin Symptoms

Arsenicum album is used in eczema, the skin has a white pasty look, with painful eruptions, there can be pustules, vesicles, and desquamation of the skin.

There is burning, itching in the affected skin followed by pain after scratching. It is used in treating pimples, carbuncles, boils, and abscesses that burn violently causing intolerable anguish, and very offensive discharge which is hot and burning but relieved by hot application.

It is used to treat gangrenes in which the burning pain is relieved by heat, ulceration with much heat.

Fever Symptoms

It is used in the relapsing and remitting type of fevers, mostly typhoid and malaria due to abuse of quinine derivatives medicines. Intermittent fevers that anticipate every 14 days, every year.

Fever paroxysms occur 1-2 am or 12-2 pm, there is sleeplessness during the night before paroxysms, this causes yawning, malaise, weakness leading to headache and vertigo due to high temperature.

The dosage and potency of the medicine depend on the individual case.

Arsenicum Album 30 Uses-

Lower potency is given when very few symptoms match the medicine to that of the patient. These symptoms help diagnose the disease condition only, given frequent repetition, 3-4 times a day, till the expected result is seen

Arsenicum Album 200 Uses-

It is higher potency; it is given when the majority of mental and physical symptoms match. Higher potencies are not repeated often; they act for a long duration of days, so the second dose is repeated every 7- 15-days once. On giving 200C potency, it’s advisable to wait for the symptoms to subside.

Arsenicum Album 1M Uses-

One should not repeat 1 M potency. It is given 30 days once only when symptoms perfectly match and wait for symptoms to disappear.

Arsenicum Album (Mother Tincture) Uses-

They are a crude form of medicine, can be used 3-4 times a day as an external application in skin disorders, epithelioma of the lip.
