Alumina or oxide of aluminum is a mineral kingdom remedy proved by Dr. Hahnemann. Its formula is Al₂O₃.3H₂O also called aluminum hydrate and commonly known as pure clay.

It is a very well-known medicine to the world. Nowadays, in this modern world, the use of alumina is very common for different purposes. In the olden days, aluminum poisoning was very common due to the use of aluminum utensils.

Alumina in the homeopathy world is known to treat many disease conditions. It is mainly used to treat severe constipation and profuse leucorrhoea in patients.

Medicine is prepared chemically and triturated with sugar in milk.

Alumina is adapted to the person who suffers from chronic diseases. It is specially adapted to the old, broken-down constitution.

It is suitable for thin, weak, chilly persons with a dark complexion who lead a sedentary life and are deficient in animal heat.

Also adapted for women of relaxed phlegmatic habit, sad and hypochondriacal. When they see a sharp instrument or blood, impulse rises so far to kill themselves.

Guiding symptoms of Alumina 

Alumina has great depth of action but has a slow pace. Its sphere of action is mainly on the nervous system, mucous membranes, skin, rectum, intestine, and vagina.

One of the characteristics guiding symptoms of alumina is they have an abnormal appetite; they crave indigestible things like chalk and charcoal and also having aversion to potatoes.

Alumina is a chief remedy among all other remedies to treat obstinate constipation due to dryness of mucus membrane of the intestine and inactivity of the rectum. There is no desire and no ability to pass stool for several days until there is a large accumulation in the rectum.

Alumina has marked action on the skin. It is a very useful remedy to treat many skin affections including dryness, burning, and itching of the skin. Patients are inclined to scratch their skin until it bleeds and becomes painful.

It is also indicated to treat thick, acrid leucorrhoea in teenagers which is profuse, copious, transparent, or yellow mucus. The main indication of this remedy is that the leucorrhoea running down to the heels of the patient become worse during the daytime but become better by cold bathing

Mind symptoms 

On the mental level, the Alumina patients always display marked dullness and slow comprehension. In interviews, patients give answers very slowly, in a monotonous voice, and give monosyllabic replies.

There is a mental inefficiency in the Alumina patients. They keep notes, work hard and perform tasks but the anxiety and apprehension that they may not complete or finish the work on time remain.

Alumina patients have changeable moods, one sad another time cheerful. They inclined to weep with tearful mood. The patient is very hasty and hurried, for them the time passes too slowly; an hour seems half a day.

Head symptoms 

Alumina is indicated to treat the periodic headache that comes every alternate day with great heaviness of the head and paleness of the face. With the heaviness of the head when sitting erect, he feels as if he would fall on stooping.

There is vertigo early in the morning, attended with nausea. Everything before his eyes turns with him in a circle. There is severe vertigo on walking and sitting with a pulsative headache on ascending the stairs.

Alumina is also indicated to treat dryness of hair and falling of hair. The hairy scalp itches and is covered with white scales, on combing the scalps feel sore and painful to touch.

Eyes symptoms

Alumina is indicated in subacute and catarrhal inflammation of the conjunctiva, particularly with dryness and smarting. There is a great loss of power of the eyelids so it is difficult to open the lids.

The most important indication for this medicine is the burning and dryness without much discharge and destruction of the tissue.

It is useful in asthenopia or eye strain from irritated conjunctiva, also in granular lids, and chronic blepharitis. It is also indicated to treat strabismus or squinting of both eyes in children during teething.

Ears symptoms

The main indication of Alumina in treating ears complaints is roaring and humming in the ear. It was useful to treat tinnitus, where there is a buzzing noise in one or both the ears that may come and go.

There is tearing and stitches in the ear, somewhat lessened by pressure with the hands. There is severe itching in the external meatus and crackling of the tympanum, especially when chewing and swallowing.

Nose symptoms 

Alumina is a well-indicated remedy for chronic nasal catarrh with scurfy nostrils or discharge of indurated masses of mucus. The tip of the nose is somewhat swollen and red associated with internal soreness.

It is useful to treat fluent coryza with frequent sneezing and lachrymation. There is bleeding from the nose on blown out. Alumina patients have an excessive acute smell and there is violent itching of the one ala of the nose.

Mouth symptoms 

Alumina is a good remedy for toothache associated with ulceration of the roots of the teeth. The roots of the teeth are painful on chewing. There is a sensation as if the teeth were too long.

It is used to treat gum swelling with discharges of blood having a saltish taste. There is drawing pain in the gums as if it were sore.

There is a lot of dryness in the mouth, it continuously feels as if the mouth were burnt this causes frequent painful swallowing. The tongue is coated yellowish-white with a bitter taste in the mouth and a musty bad smell from the mouth.

Patients often come with complaints of tastelessness in the mouth, everything he eats tastes flat. In the early morning, there is a flat metallic taste in the mouth.

Face symptoms

Alumina is indicated to treat many facial-related issues like facial neuralgia, acne, boils, and furuncles on the face. Alumina patients have sad, gloomy facial expressions.

The facial skin easily gets wrinkled with very fine lines, and the patient looks older than his age. There is the roughness of the skin of the face, especially on the forehead. The lips are dry, cracked with exfoliation of the lips.

There is copper-like redness of the cheeks, tingling of the face, and tension of the skin as if it were covered with the white of an egg. It is indicated to treat the involuntary twitching of the lower jaw and is also used to treat trismus or lockjaw.

Throat symptoms

Alumina is most often indicated medicine to treat sore throat aggravated at night and gets ameliorated by anything warm. It is contractive and shooting pain in the throat mainly feels on swallowing. Patients complain of difficulty in deglutition, they feel as if their gullet is contracted.

There is a collection of thick viscid mucus in the throat, especially in the evening and morning on waking which increases the soreness of the throat, it induces frequent clearing of the throat and can only be expectorated in little lumps with great efforts.

There, are transient stitches in the throat, shooting here and there, on swallowing and something pointed sometimes seem to stick in the throat. There is violent tickling in the throat, exciting frequent cough.

Chest symptom

Alumina is indicated to the patients who easily take cold and develop a cough. There are short fits of dry cough with tearing, shooting pain in the throat, and dryness of the throat.

There is a continuously dry, hacking cough with vomiting and arrest of the breathing. Every attack lasts a long time. The phlegm in the air passage is always adherent, it necessitates clearing the throat, whereby only a small portion is detached.

It used to treat violent oppressive pain in the middle of the chest. The patient complaint that this oppression of the chest alternates with constriction and violent palpitation of the heart.

There is an external pressure in the lower part of the chest, followed by empty eructation that gives no relief.

Heart symptoms

Alumina is used to treat many cardiac issues like hypertension, hypotension, angina pectoris, and tachycardia. After a sudden shock, the heart beats very rapidly, it is indicated in palpitation of the heart with irregular beats.

The patient complains of ischemic chest pain after waking in the morning and after eating. This condition is also called angina pectoris and the patient may experience heartburn, nausea, and shortness of breath with pressure on the chest.

Stomach symptoms.

Alumina patients have a general desire for indigestible things like chalk, lime, dirt, and starch. There is a marked aversion to beer, meat, and potatoes. The patients are always hungry but do not eat with relish.

There is sour eructation, leaving the throat burning for a while, and hence this medicine is used to treat heartburn or acidity and oesophagitis or inflammation of the esophagus. After eating acidity rises into the mouth, continues for a long time, and is attended with a sensation of heat in the mouth, hiccough, and belching.

After dinner when the patient experiences stitches and tearing sore pain from the pit of the stomach down into the abdomen, with short breathing and great anguish then this medicine is highly effective.

Abdomen and Rectum symptoms

Alumina is indicated to treat much liver-associated pathology. There is great sensitivity around the hepatic region when stooping with tearing and drawing pain in the right hypochondriac region.

There is great painful distension of the stomach after dinner with tenesmus. There is grumbling in the abdomen with anxious restlessness without any flatulence passing off. Emission of the flatulence relives the fullness of the abdomen.

Alumina is great medicine for treating severe constipation in patients due to inactivity of the rectum as if it were deficient in peristaltic motion. Rectum feels as if it had not enough strength to press down the contents out. The stools can only be pressed out by straining the abdominal muscle.

There is itching and burning in the anus and tenesmus of the rectum after the evacuation of stools. There is a sense of excoriation in the anus after an evacuation attended with contraction of the rectum and constriction of the anus.

Urinary symptoms

Alumina is a good remedy for nocturnal enuresis in adults and old age people. There is the feeling of weakness in the bladder and genital organs and patients feel he will wet the bed. Also, there is violent tenesmus, pressure, and drawing in the region of the bladder, especially at the neck of the bladder.

Patients are obliged to rise during the night to urinate. When urinating there is burning like fire in the urethra which makes the patient low spirited and desponding. There is involuntary emission of urine, occasioned by bearing down to evacuate the bowels.

Male symptoms

Alumina is a useful remedy for treating male sexual-related issues like painful erection, violent emission, prostatitis, and impotency.

There is a painful erection during the night, not so perfect but causes a sensation as if the organ were ulcerated internally with short, fine, piercing stitches in the whole organ.

Alumina can be given to patients who are indifferent to sexual intercourse. There is a want of sexual instinct. Initially, the sexual instinct is more intense and gradually decreasing, and becomes moderate. There is violent erection and emission without any amorous dreams.

Female symptoms 

Alumina is a great remedy for treating leukorrhea that is frequent and acrid with burning in the genital organs. the genitals seemed inflamed and corroded due to this acrid leucorrhoea. Leucorrhoea is quite clear like water or transparent mucus and it made the linen stiff.

It is also used to treat irregular menses, especially when the menses appear too soon preceded by a violent headache that ceased on the appearance of menses. Menses is too scanty and pale and have a copious flow and lasts only three days.

Hand and Leg symptoms

Alumina is indicated to treat twitching in all limbs. There is the involuntary twitching of the limbs here and there on movement, especially in the legs and feet, followed by a disposition to turn the arms and stretched them upward.

The hands and legs are rigid as if they had gone to sleep. When engaged in some bodily labor there is a cramp-like sensation, like numbness ascending the limbs.

Alumina is also indicated to treat the ulcer in the sole that causes a stinging pain on stepping upon it. There is stinging, titillation, pricking, and burning in the sole of the feet. It is also used to treat the corn on the foot that develops from the skin’s response to friction and pressure.

Back symptoms

Alumina is used to treat the stiffness of the neck muscle. The nape of the neck is painful on moving the head. It is indicated when patients complain of stiffness of the neck and upper part of the back in the early morning, withdrawing pain passing off by motion.

There is violent pain as if bruised in the small of the back. After the evacuation, there is throbbing pain and painful twitches at the point of the coccyx, not altered by walking but relieved by stretching.

Skin symptoms

Alumina is indicated in the condition where the small injuries of the skin become sore and inflamed. It is also indicated to treat the itchy pimples here and there on the skin.

There are painful red spots, pimples, and eruptions on the skin that itches a lot. Patients are inclined to scratch the eruptions and on scratching watery blood oozes out from the eruptions.

It is used to treat many skin-related issues like boils, pimples, dryness of hands, psoriasis, ulcers, and herpes.

Fever symptoms

Alumina is indicated in the fever when then is internal cold and chill and patients have the desire of a warm stove and stretching of the limbs. Patients get worse after the warm drinks during fever.

There is frequent repetition of chills, with constant eructation and bitter taste in the mouth. In the heat stage of the fever, there is the sensation of the body after being violently heated. During the bodily effort, heat runs over the whole body and is succeeded by chills with burning in the abdomen.

At the third stage of fever that is the sweating stage, there is a lot of perspiration upon every motion, followed by cold shivers as if one had caught a cold. If this symptom is seen in any patient, Alumina can give the best results.

Alumina Dosage & Potencies

Alumina 30 Uses

Lower potency is given when very few symptoms of the patient match with Alumina and help the doctor only to diagnose the disease condition. 

This potency requires frequent repetition, 3-4 times a day, till the expected result is seen. 

Alumina 200 Uses

This is considered as higher potency; they are given when the majority of mental symptoms and physical symptoms of Alumina are matched with the disease individuals.

Higher potencies are advisable to be not repeated very often; they act for a long duration of days, so the second dose is repeated every 7-days or every 15-days once.

Alumina 1M Uses

This is very high potency. One should give it only after careful case analysis, where all medicinal symptoms of Alumina and that given by the patient match perfectly. 

One should not repeat 1 M potency. It is given 30 days once and waiting for symptoms to disappear or until any new symptoms appear.

Alumina Q (Mother Tincture) Uses

The mother tincture of Alumina is indicated for general sluggishness of all functions of the body and helps to treat the condition like headache, abdominal cramps, menstrual troubles, constipation, and leucorrhoea

Take 10 drops of mother tincture of Alumina in half a cup of water three times a day till the improvement occurs. 

Alumina 3X/6X Uses

This lower potency of Alumina works well to treat digestive disorders and vaginal disorders. It is also used to treat the cold and coryza, runny or stuffed nose, difficulty in swallowing, and hoarseness of voice.
