Aloe socotrina is a wonderful homeopathic remedy used as purgatives. It is a vegetable kingdom remedy that belongs to the family Liliaceae, and is commonly known as ‘Socotrine Aloes’.

The word ‘aloe’ has been originated from the Arabic word ‘alloch’ which means a shining bitter substance. It is an excellent remedy for the re-establishment of the physiological equilibrium after much drugging.

Aloe socotrina came into the existence of homeopathy after the proving made by Dr. Hering. The plant can grow in the poor grade of soil. It is found growing upon the seashore of the Indian ocean and the island of Socotra.

The medicine is made after the preparation of the mother tincture from the juice of the plant leaves.

It is a remedy for the lazy person who lives a sedentary life, women of relaxed phlegmatic habits, and old beer drinkers.

Aloe socotrina has a strong purgative action, and mainly acts on the mucus membrane of the colon. It acts as a tonic and in small doses, it increases the secretion of the gastrointestinal tract and liver.

It is a top-listed remedy for morning diarrhea caused by eating and drinking oysters and beer. The patient has to run immediately after eating and drinking with a want of confidence in sphincter ani. It is indicated when patients feel weakness and loss of power of the sphincter ani.

Aloe socotrina is indicated when only gases pass before the stool with sensation as if stool would pass with gases which are very offensive and burning.

Patients are dissatisfied and angry about themselves or their complaints especially when constipated. The patient becomes irritable, hateful, discontented, and dissatisfied and his conduct repels others also. The patient may become particularly angry if somebody expresses a different opinion.

The mental state of Aloe’s patients can go up and down easily and have alternating states. At one time he can be excited easily, his face gets flushed, the mind racing with thoughts and in the next instance, a change can take place and leads him to the state of lassitude and indifference.

Immediately after meal, he sat down by himself, without speaking and without any desire for mental and physical exertions, meditating and wrapped up in himself, as after sickness and fit of anger.

Head symptoms 

Aloe socotrina has peculiar vertigo. There is a paroxysm of vertigo, the patient feels as if everything whorled about him, it gets worse on going upstairs and on turning the head quickly.

It is indicated when a patient has a headache after gripping the bowel and after stool. Headache in the morning following an incomplete evacuation of the bowels, lasting until the second follows.

There is congestion of the head with a sensation of dull pressure throughout the whole head when walking. Headache becomes worse with every footstep with the heaviness of eyes and nausea.

Headaches are worse from heat and better from the cold application. Headache alternating with lumbago and mainly after insufficient stool is characteristic symptoms of this medicine.

Eyes symptoms

Aloe socotrina can be given to the patients who complain of the heaviness of the eyes with aching above the forehead and nausea.

There is sensitive pressure in the orbits and burning pain in the eyes as if a fine current of hot air is passed through it.

It is also indicated in conjunctivitis. There is an increased congestive condition of the ordinarily somewhat reddened conjunctiva of the lids. There is dim cloudy vision, as if from want of sleep.

Ears symptoms

Aloe socotrina is indicated when there is drawing, sticking pain in the inner ear with a slight twinning kind of pain in the right ear. Patients complain about pressing the teeth together, there is a sensation of numbness behind the ear that draws on the lower jaw.

Nose symptoms 

Aloe socotrina is an effective remedy for treating the dryness of the nose in the morning after waking. The nose becomes red and the tip becomes cold in the cold open air. There is also burning in the nostrils along with dryness.

It is also indicated in dry, fluent coryza with frequent sneezing in the morning and watery mucus from the nose. Discharge of copious mucus which soon becomes thick.

Sometimes this dryness of the nostrils can cause epistaxis in children mostly in the morning after waking. In such conditions, Aloe socotrina is effective to give relief.

Mouth symptoms 

Aloe socotrina is indicated when there is yellow-white discoloration of the tongue with so much pain in it due to ulcers on the tongue.

The concave edges of the teeth seem sharp and hurt the tongue and cause an ulcer on the tongue. When moving the tongue there are stitches from below to the tip that make the tongue difficult to protrude.

There is marked dryness of the mouth along with the dryness of lips with increased thirst. The patient also complains of an accumulation of metallic taste in the mouth in the morning after waking.

Face symptoms

The patients are very sensitive to the coldness of the weather; hence their faces appear very pale, sunken, and sickly. There is confusedness and painfulness of the whole left half of the face, with dry and cracked lips, has a white appearance, if it is not moistened frequently by the tongue.
